About the nicknames>>

Complicated!!

Bison (Buffalo), Grille (cricket) and Sturmpanzer (assault armour) applied to same vehicles in different sources.

IMO [spellir] "Storm gun" would've been better for the mobile assault artillery (IG), while "Storm Armour" would've been better for the purpose built heartier StuGs. No?

{curious weapon in that it was very effective but it is underated by scholars; doctrine was as fast Inf assault vehicle (which is bascially a tank) [but sometimes listed as batteries instead of companies (3StuG X 2Pltn or 2X3)]; turns into effective ad hoc overwatch Tank Destroyer (but not in PzJg Abteilung); high kill ratio, inexpensive; model for JagdPanzers --but their doctrine shunned overwatch but from within overwatch PzJg abteilung. Conclusion: Germans are all over the place as they became more desperate and the pre war AFV doctrine (Guderian et al, from British WWI)) fell apart.}

For three hours our guns (Ferdinands) fought in the cavalcade of enemy fire and proved to be immune to enemy fire !. In the evening of the first day, first enemy tanks were destroyed, while others retreated. Crews of field and anti-tank guns run away after firing few uneffective shots against our guns (Ferdinands).
